Role Overview:
The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for the upkeep, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical and electrical systems across the plant. This includes preventive and reactive maintenance of key equipment, ranging from grinders, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems , to quartz ovens, press machines, polishing units , and EOT cranes . You will play a vital role in supporting production efficiency and safety through effective engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance of both mechanical and electrical machinery within the plant.
• Handle repair and overhauling of mechanical components including gearboxes , pumps , hydraulic/pneumatic systems , and press/polishing machines .
• Execute electrical maintenance tasks including fault diagnosis, circuit inspection, and replacement of faulty components in quartz plant equipment.
• Conduct arc welding , gas cutting , and fabrication tasks as needed for machine repairs or structural adjustments.
• Ensure proper lubrication and greasing of machines on scheduled intervals to avoid wear and tear.
• Maintain and repair EOT cranes , drilling machines , bench rollers , and other utility machines within the factory premises.
• Monitor performance and health of key machinery including Quartz Oven , Press Machine , and Polishing Machine .
• Respond quickly to breakdowns, assess root cause, and implement corrective measures to minimize downtime.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts usage, and service schedules.
• Follow all safety protocols , ensure lock-out/tag-out procedures are adhered to during electrical repairs and high-risk maintenance work.
• Coordinate with production and plant management teams to prioritize tasks based on urgency and production requirements.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering .
• 2–3 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment, preferably in Quartz / Artificial Stone / Engineered Stone industries.
• Proficiency in handling tools and machinery such as hand grinders , gearboxes , hydraulic and pneumatic systems , pumps , quartz ovens , and press/polishing machines .
• Strong working knowledge of mechanical and electrical fault diagnosis .

What are my responsibilities?

• Lead installation, testing, and commissioning of Siemens signaling, SCADA, and asset protection systems on the UAE–Oman Railway Project.
• Ensure technical compliance by validating equipment positioning, performing signal sighting assessments, and reviewing project documentation.
• Conduct regular safety briefings, monitor safety incidents, and implement proactive risk mitigation strategies.
• Update and maintain safety procedures throughout project phases, ensuring adherence to regulations and internal standards.

• Manage and close punch list items in close coordination with consultants, customers, and the QA/QC team.

What do I need to qualify for this job?

• You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• You have 5+ years of hands-on experience in railway signaling installation, preferably with Siemens systems.
• You’re preferably a Siemens certified Installer and hold relevant certifications in Railway Safety, Quality Management and Technical Safety.
• You bring proven experience in ETCS projects and IXL systems, including installation of outdoor components (signals, axle counters, transponders, point machines) and indoor equipment (IXL cabinets, OCC workstations, VCPs).
• You are proficient in a wide range of installation activities including cabling (laying, termination, meggering, ferruling, labeling of SIG cables) and containment systems.
• You’re experienced with punch list resolution, redline/as-built documentation, and technical interface coordination.
• You are knowledgeable in a variety of APS detectors such as HWD, DED, RFD, WILD, WMS, WIM, ML-VMS, AVI, HABD, and RFID systems.
• You possess strong testing skills using Siemens tools and systems, including SICAS, Controlguide, and Trainguard.
• This role requires flexibility for site travel, fieldwork, shift-based schedules, and on-call availability as needed for project delivery.
• You hold a valid driving license for Oman, which is essential due to the nature of site-based mobility across project locations.
• You preferably have hands-on experience in Etihad Rail Stage 2.
• You're willing to be based full-time on-site in Sohar, Oman, with flexibility for project travel as needed.

Overview

Mechanical Technician will carry out maintenance, modification, overhauling and installation activities on the mechanical machinery in accordance with standard operating procedures, HSE guidelines and quality standards to attain effective functionality and reliability.
