Responsibilities
  • Lead regional process safety standards, design tools, and work processes.
  • Facilitate process safety hazard reviews, applying risk-based criteria to prioritize assessments and actions.
  • Conduct Pre-Start Up Safety reviews and ORIs for projects in IG Plants/Businesses.
  • Perform process hazard analyses and risk assessments, tracking and assisting with recommendations.
  • Provide technical advice on process safety issues to stakeholders, including management, engineering, and operations teams.
  • Drive process safety improvements by analyzing incident and near-miss trends.
  • Lead regional incident Root Cause Analysis.
  • Manage process safety improvement projects and train plant teams.
  • Lead HAZOP studies for plant upgrades and approve change notices ('eMOCs').
  • Support new plant design and process technology optimization during project development.
  • Assist during technical due diligence and post-acquisition safety integration.
  • Collaborate with plant management to ensure up-to-date PSM systems.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, petroleum, or process safety engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in petrochemical, oil & gas industry, with at least 5 years in a process safety role.
  • Experience in industrial gas manufacturing or oil & gas production preferred.
  • Strong understanding of process safety management, risk management, and regulations.
  • Experience with risk assessment tools like LOPA, and software such as PHAST, HYSYS, Flarenet, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey safety protocols and influence stakeholders.

Reimagine What’s Possible

  • Thorough understanding of process safety management systems, risk management, and compliance.
  • Ability to identify hazards and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge of quantitative risk assessment techniques such as LOPA.
  • Proficiency with engineering software tools like PHAST, PHA-Pro, Hysys, Flarenet, FlareSim, Pipenet/AFT is advantageous.
  • Experience with HAZOP, Management of Change (MOC), and risk assessments.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of influencing and engaging teams and managing interfaces with consultants, construction, and operations.

In this role, you will be responsible to provide expert leadership in ensuring that Process Safety Risks are effectively managed across OQ RPI facilities (Refineries and Petchem). Develop, maintain and improve framework, procedures, standards and guidelines related to Process Safety.

Position is based in Oman for a long-term assignment.

Responsibilities

The Lead Process Safety Engineerwill be responsible:

  • Lead the implementation of Process Safety policies, systems, procedures and guidelines for RPI & Plastic assets considering lesson learnt, best practices and standards to ensure the work is effectively and efficiently.
  • Lead the developing of Process Safety project plans, including schedules, budgets, and resources.
  • Ensures that all work is conducted in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Ensure that there is consistent strategy to manage Process Safety Barriers for all RPI assets including identification, operations, maintenance, etc. across facilities and plants as part of Mechanical Integrity System.

Responsibilities
  • Lead regional process safety standards, design tools, and work processes.
  • Facilitate process safety hazard reviews, applying risk-based criteria to prioritize assessments and actions.
  • Conduct Pre-Start Up Safety reviews and ORIs for projects in IG Plants/Businesses.
  • Perform process hazard analyses and risk assessments, tracking and assisting with recommendations.
  • Provide technical advice on process safety issues to stakeholders, including management, engineering, and operations teams.
  • Drive process safety improvements by analyzing incident and near-miss trends.
  • Lead regional incident Root Cause Analysis.
  • Manage process safety improvement projects and train plant teams.
  • Lead HAZOP studies for plant upgrades and approve change notices ('eMOCs').
  • Support new plant design and process technology optimization during project development.
  • Assist during technical due diligence and post-acquisition safety integration.
  • Collaborate with plant management to ensure up-to-date PSM systems.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, petroleum, or process safety engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in petrochemical, oil & gas industry, with at least 5 years in a process safety role.
  • Experience in industrial gas manufacturing or oil & gas production preferred.
  • Strong understanding of process safety management, risk management, and regulations.
  • Experience with risk assessment tools like LOPA, and software such as PHAST, HYSYS, Flarenet, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey safety protocols and influence stakeholders.

Wood is recruiting for a Lead Process Safety Engineer to join its Projects team focusing on delivering across FEED and Detail design scopes of work. In this role, you will be responsible to provide expert leadership in ensuring that Process Safety Risks are effectively managed across OQ RPI facilities (Refineries and Petchem). Develop, maintain and improve framework, procedures, standards and guidelines related to Process Safety.

Position is based in Oman for a long-term assignment.

Responsibilities

The Lead Process Safety Engineerwill be responsible:

  • Lead the implementation of Process Safety policies, systems, procedures and guidelines for RPI & Plastic assets considering lesson learnt, best practices and standards to ensure the work is effectively and efficiently.
  • Lead the developing of Process Safety project plans, including schedules, budgets, and resources.
  • Ensures that all work is conducted in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Ensure that there is consistent strategy to manage Process Safety Barriers for all RPI assets including identification, operations, maintenance, etc. across facilities and plants as part of Mechanical Integrity System.
  • Ensure requirements for safe operating procedures includes a document generation and upkeep,
  • Ensure competency assurance and compliance as part of Process Safety Barriers Management.
  • Ensure Risk management Audits & Reports and Projects
  • Consolidate the process Safety performance for RPI and prepare consolidate reports including recommendations for improvement of process safety management.
  • Interface with Audits and relevant authorities for compliance of Process safety plans / works.
  • Ensure availability of processes governing Hazard Analysis (PHA), e.g., Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP), Safety Integrity Level (SIL) study, Quantitative Risk
  • Assessment (QRA), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) and other risk evaluation studies and Process Safety workshops for existing and new facilities. Ensuring compliance to those processes.
  • Execute programs to improve Process Safety culture and monitor the improvement of Process Safety culture and provide updates, guidance and clarifications on existing laws and regulations regarding Process Safety related issues and advice on establishing the best practice standards.
  • Lead Process Safety incidents' investigations and follow-up for RPI assets.
  • Lead site wide PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, and QRA studies as required.
  • The lead engineer is responsible for liaising with stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and suppliers, to ensure that project objectives are met and that expectations are managed effectively.
  • Focal Point for interface with process risk management audits and their follow up on the areas for improvement as required for proper implementation.
  • Provides technical guidance and expertise to the process safety team, and for ensuring that technical issues are resolved in a timely and effective manner.
  • Provide technical specific guidance and support on process safety issues during the concept, FEED, Engineering, construction, commissioning, operational and decommissioning phases of plants/facilities/projects in RPI
  • Provide guidance on-site consultations on process safety issues and ensure accountability of all PSM requirements.

Experience:

  • 10 + years of relevant experience
  • Experience Leading Process Safety & related projects for Petch & Refinery
  • Experience in developing process safety concepts, designing safety systems, and ensuring that designs meet regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Experience in project management, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and coordination with other engineering disciplines and project stakeholders
  • Strong experience leading techniques for ensuring data integrity with various integration of information/ reports
  • Experience leading process Safety project plans, including schedules, budgets, and resources
  • Experience in developing and implementing process safety management systems, conducting audits, and driving continuous improvement in process safety performance.
  • Deep understanding of process safety principles, regulations, codes, and standards, and the ability to apply this knowledge to design, optimize, and troubleshoot process safety systems.
  • Proficient in conducting process hazard analyses (PHA), risk assessments, and developing risk management plans to minimize process safety hazards.
  • Background in promoting and enhancing a safety culture within the organization, ensuring that all personnel are aware of and comply with process safety requirements.
  • Continuous improvement: The Lead Engineer Process Safety should have sound judgment in technical matters with good skills in engineering field materials specifications, integrity inspection, plant design optimization/modification and applicable code &standards.
  • Solid knowledge of OQ RPI Process Safety Framework
  • HSE (Knowledge of HAZOPS, Safety Studies and Risk Analysis. or similar studies.
  • Refinery commissioning and start-up.
  • Understanding of Process Plant (P& ID / PFD) & Engineering drawings and OEM manuals.
  • Computer knowledge in MS Office applications like MS Word, MS excel etc.
  • SAP (PM & MM & FM Modules) Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Software applications like HAZpro, INTELEX, and PI
  • Technical writing to write clear, concise, and accurate reports, procedures, and other technical documents related to process safety.
  • Understanding of process safety principles and the ability to apply them in a practical and effective manner.
