The Solutions Engineering team works in close collaboration with our managed infrastructure operations team, which runs many private OpenStack clouds and Kubernetes clusters for customers around the world. This enables us to improve our infra-as-code products based on our own real experience, mirroring that of our users and customers. We work in Python, creating open-source automation capabilities that simplify operations for anybody, anywhere, who is building on Ubuntu.

Most of the team's work involves pure Python software development focused on enabling true DevOps workflows. We strive for high quality in both design, documentation, tests, and performance as we enhance operations code packages and Ubuntu itself in order to ensure our platform is the easiest, most robust, and best performing for driving your infrastructure.

  • Lead and develop a team of Python engineers working remotely in global locations

Role and team

Sustaining Engineering is a business critical team that continuously improves various open source software by resolving software defects reported by customers. Role

Our regional Support Managers run world-class Support teams – solving deep technical problems for customers around the world on Ubuntu Server, Ubuntu Desktop and on the public cloud. They demonstrate two key attributes: customer focus – ensuring that customers are always satisfied with the service they are receiving, and technical excellence – ensuring that the support team is always up to date with the our technology, and that they perform sound and quick troubleshooting. We are looking for managers for both of our support groups; Cloud Support Group and Devices Support Group. You'll need to be comfortable in a fast paced environment, able to take responsibility for delivering to customers and enjoy challenges. You will also need to care deeply about your team, their skills, and their career development.

Responsibilities
  • Management of a professional support team, including skills development and performance management
  • Operational control, shift scheduling, accountability for key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Ensures that all customer cases are responded to within the SLA, and in a professional manner
  • Act as the customer escalation contact, and ensure that such escalations are addressed appropriately

Overview

The Field Engineering Manager is responsible to assure to the construction process the required Free Issue Deliverables (material and IFC drawings).

In particular he has the overall responsibility to ensure:

  • Management of technical documentation (filing, distribution, field revisions, as-built, subcontractor documentation)
  • Construction assistance (interface with home office, identification/approval of technical solutions for non conformities, assistance in reading the technical drawings and documents, reply to Request for Information, Vendor specialist management, preparation/approval of method statements)
  • Material availability according to construction schedule (material management and Field Material Requisitions)
Staff and team
  • Management of a supporting engineering team.
TASKS
  1. Checks the consistency between transmittal sheets and documents attached.
  2. Records all information necessary to have a clear follow-up of arrival, transmittal of all technical documents, in such a way that control of applicable documents can be done at any time by anybody at any working place.
  3. Duplicates and distributes all documents in compliance with the Project procedure (matrix), Client and Subcontractors included.
  4. Organizes the filing of all documents.

Manages the field modifications and new documents and drawings prepared by his team

  • Check and approve subcontractor's supplies proposals for permanent works.
  • Provides when required, expertise to the Construction personnel on all technical matters :
  • clarification requests,
  • final solution to a non-conformance report
  • interpretation of drawings and/or specifications.
  • Manages the master of "AS BUILT" drawings and relevant files for hand-over to the Client.
  • Manages the approval and coordination for drawings and technical documents issued by subcontractor
  • Manages the technical interface between the Field Organization and the Home Office permanent organization
  • Acts as liaison with Customer in matters pertaining to design. Coordinates internal or external experts which may be required (surveyors, welding controllers, local Authorities, Vendors specialists, etc.)
  • Acts as the Constructability Coordinator after the opening of the jobsite in order to continue and complete the constructability program started at the Engineering Center.
  • Ensure the general coordination of the Handover of the Facilities to Client (punch list resolution).
  • Check and analyse for any shortage of material (loss, damage, shortage, etc.) all possibilities of replacement, substitution, specification adjustment, etc. before giving authorisation to proceed with new additional purchase or request to the Home Office.
  • Has to manage the electronic drawings data storage and all IT subjects relating the drawings (classification, updating, …)
Material management responsibilities

In case the Site Organization foresees the Material Manager, all the following duties/responsibilities/tasks related to material management are taken by the Material Manager:

  • Updates the status of all ordered material contacting the home office procurement department
  • Supervises in coordination with Material Handling Coordinator the reception, inspection and warehousing
  • Supervises the distribution of the material preparing the material delivery vouchers
  • Provides information on expected arrival and/or availability of materials in field
  • Manages the preparation of Field Material Requisitions

We are hiring a GitOps Engineering Manager aspiring for a world-class devops and gitops engineering management challenge, bringing together operations management, software engineering and product development, and team leadership in a single high-value role. You will need to be a Linux and operations expert, as well as a great manager capable of leading a high-performance team, to excel in this role.

We have fully distributed, home-based teams in EMEA, APAC and the Americas. You will lead a team in your time zone, and report to a global director who may not be in your time zone.

Location : This role will be based remotely in the APAC region.

The role entails

  • Lead your team in daily agile devops practices
  • Represent the IS team to stakeholders, customers, and internal teams
  • Organize, coordinate and drive internal projects
  • Mentor engineers to improve their skills
  • Identify and measure team health indicators
  • Implement structured engineering and operations processes
  • Ensure proper team focus on priorities, milestones, and deliverables
  • Work to meet service level agreements with customer deployments around the globe
  • Deliver quality managed services in a consistent, timely manner

What we are looking for in you

  • Drive and a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations
  • Proven experience of software delivery using infrastructure as code
  • Proven experience managing devops teams for SAAS or similar offerings
  • Understanding of testing methodologies and maintainable code quality
  • Technical aptitude for understanding complex distributed systems
  • Experience with cloud topologies and technologies
  • Ability to travel twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long
  • An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university

Nice-to-have skills

  • Experience with Ubuntu system administration
  • Experience with agile software development methodologies
  • Experience working in and managing distributed teams
