We are hiring a Site Reliability Engineering Manager aspiring for a world-class devops and gitops engineering management challenge, bringing together operations management, software engineering and product development, and team leadership in a single high-value role. You will need to be a Linux and operations expert, as well as a great manager capable of leading a high-performance team, to excel in this role.
The Information Systems team at Canonical runs services used by over 60 million Ubuntu users. Our mission is to pioneer and prove new and better approaches to large-scale IS. We support Canonical and Ubuntu operations, but we also help shape Canonical's managed application service offerings, raising the bar on devops and cloud-native operations. We take infra-as-code to the next level, blazing a trail to next-generation model-driven operations. We not only aim to automate every process that underpins our business, we also share that automation as open source packages which others use to drive their own operations. From Kubernetes to the kernel and everything in-between, you will be working with the latest technologies in a fast-paced engineering environment.
We have fully distributed, home-based teams in EMEA, APAC and the Americas. You will lead a team in your time zone, and report to a global director who may not be in your time zone.
Location : This role will be based remotely in the APAC region.
Responsibilities- Lead your team in daily agile devops practices
- Represent the IS team to stakeholders, customers, and internal teams
- Organize, coordinate and drive internal projects
- Mentor engineers to improve their skills
- Identify and measure team health indicators
- Implement structured engineering and operations processes
- Ensure proper team focus on priorities, milestones, and deliverables
- Work to meet service level agreements with customer deployments around the globe
- Deliver quality managed services in a consistent, timely manner
- Drive and a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations
- Proven experience of software delivery using infrastructure as code
- Proven experience managing devops teams for SAAS or similar offerings

To become a member of this team, you need to be a software engineer fluent in Python, you need a genuine interest in the full open source infrastructure stack from metal to containers, and you need the ability to work in a high pressure operations environment with mission-critical services for global brand name customers.

What we are looking for in you
- Degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science
- Experience with Linux and familiarity with Linux networking and storage
- Python software development expertise
- Operational experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
- Ability to travel internationally twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long
- Experience with OpenStack or Kubernetes deployment or operations
- Familiarity with public or private cloud management

Role OverviewWe are looking for a hands-on Senior Reliability Engineer to support the Reliability team across RCM, RCA/ECA, Maintenance Digitalization in APM , and broader reliability engineering initiatives.
Responsibilities- Facilitate and transfer existing RCM studies from Excel to APM for all GN stations per the yearly plan.
- Link failure modes to the correct assets and hierarchies for complete reliability coverage.
- Conduct and support RCAs as required.
- Integrate Maintenance Craft Procedures (MCP) with APM and align to asset hierarchies, tagging, and scheduling.
- Create task-level indicators to streamline execution and compliance.
- Plan and run a pilot of maintenance digitalization with selected technicians using handheld devices for data entry/validation.
- Capture feedback from technicians/stakeholders, iterate APM configuration and MCP content, and optimize usability and efficiency.
- Lead full implementation across relevant teams, with training and schedule communication.
- Define and track KPIs/metrics for MCP effectiveness, adoption, and performance.
- Continuously evaluate results and adjust procedures based on performance data.
- Maintain clear documentation in APM; record stations where MCP is implemented and generate compliance/performance reports.
- Build and maintain a Gantt plan with progress updates and milestone completions.
- Develop Maintenance Digitalization procedures aligned with best practices and operational standards, including a RASI matrix.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/electrical/Instrumentation or related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in Reliability Engineering with strong hands-on delivery.
- Deep proficiency in RCM, RCA/ECA, MCP and core reliability methods (e.g., FMEA/FMECA).
- Strong experience with APM (Bentley) and SAP PM (solution packages, maintenance plans, PM work orders).
- Certifications (preferred): CRL, CRE, CMRP; Vibration Category I or II.
