Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Structural Design Engineer located in Muscat. The Structural Design Engineer will be responsible for performing structural analysis, developing structural engineering designs, and collaborating with civil engineering teams. Additionally, the role involves utilizing Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and AutoCAD for designing and drafting structural components. Day-to-day tasks include assessing project requirements, proposing innovative solutions, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Structural Design Engineer - Senior

Location : Muscat, Oman

Job Description – Senior Structural Designer

Position Overview :

The Senior Structural Designer will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and coordinating all structural design drawings, ensuring compliance with project specifications, design intent, and international codes. The role also involves managing and guiding a team responsible for preparing BBS (Bar Bending Schedule) drawings and ensuring accurate, coordinated, and constructible documentation for all structural elements.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Structural Design & Detailing -

2. Prepare detailed structural design drawings (RC and steel structures) based on engineering calculations and design sketches.

3. Develop general arrangement drawings, sections, and details for foundations, columns, slabs, beams, retaining walls, and other structural components.
4. Ensure compliance with applicable standards such as BS, ACI, and Eurocodes.

5. Review and integrate architectural and MEP inputs to maintain coordination and constructability.

6. BBS (Bar Bending Schedule) Management

7. Supervise and coordinate the preparation of BBS drawings and schedules.

8. Check and validate bar lists for accuracy against structural drawings and site conditions.
9. Implement standardized BBS templates and quality control measures.

10. Liaise with site and design teams to address reinforcement detailing queries and resolve discrepancies.

11. Team Leadership & Coordination

12. Lead a team of structural draftsmen and BBS detailers, ensuring workload balance and adherence to deadlines.

13. Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and design input to junior team members.
14. Coordinate closely with the Structural Engineer/Design Engineer for all design revisions and clarifications.

15. Interface with multidisciplinary teams (Architectural, MEP, ID) to ensure smooth coordination.

16. Quality Control & Documentation

17. Review and approve drawings before submission to the consultant/client.

18. Ensure drawings are updated and consistent with the latest design revisions and site changes.

19. Maintain drawing registers, revision logs, and documentation in line with project QA/QC systems.

20. Site Support

21. Provide technical support during construction, especially for rebar detailing, BBS clarifications, and design modifications.

22. Review as-built drawings and assist in resolving site queries related to structural detailing. Qualifications & Experience

Education:

Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil / Structural Engineering or equivalent.

• Experience: Minimum 10–15 years of experience in structural design and detailing, with at least 5 years in a senior or lead designer role.

• Proven experience in reinforced concrete and steel structure detailing for residential, commercial, or mixed-use buildings.

• Strong background in BBS preparation and review.

• Experience with consultancy firms or design offices in Oman or GCC preferred. Technical Skills

• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit Structure, and CADS RC / RebarCAD or equivalent rebar detailing software.

• Familiar with ETABS, SAFE, and STAAD.Pro for structural model referencing (advantageous).

• Strong understanding of ACI, and BS standards.

• Excellent command of MS Excel for BBS and QA templates.

• Familiarity with BIM coordination workflows is an advantage.

Role & responsibilities

Solar Electrical Design & Implementation:

• Lead all aspects of solar electrical design, from conceptualization to execution.
• Conduct site analysis to determine solar irradiance, shading, load requirements, and optimal system sizing.
• Design single-line diagrams (SLDs) and electrical layouts compliant with Omani codes and standards.
• Perform load calculations, voltage drop analysis, short-circuit studies, harmonics analysis, and protection design for PV systems.
• Select electrical equipment, including inverters, transformers, PV modules, switchgear, fuses, and circuit breakers, ensuring cost-effective and reliable solutions.
• Develop Bill of Materials (BOM) for all electrical components.
• Design and coordinate cabling, grounding, earthing, and PV array layouts for optimal performance.
• Conduct commissioning tests, performance verification, and troubleshoot electrical issues during installation.
• Collaborate with civil engineers to ensure proper integration of electrical systems with structural foundations, trenching, and wiring pathways.
