Under supervision, performs a variety of assignments through the application of basic engineering theories, techniques, and practices. In development mode, being trained in the utilization of relevant regulations, codes, manufacturing standards, and industry-standard practices for the control, development, and application of deliverables while gaining exposure to procedures and processes.

Qualification Required: Awarded a 4 or 5-year technical degree in mechanical engineering.

Wood is recruiting for a Senior Piping Engineer to join its Projects team focusing on delivering across FEED and Detail design scopes of work. Position is based in Oman for a long-term assignment.

Degree in relevant Engineering subject. (B.Sc./B.Eng./MSc)

Minimum 6 - 10 years upstream Oil & Gas, Refineries and Petrochemical experience

Experience in design, and specification of oil & gas, refinery and petrochemical facilities. The experience should include handling independently stress analysis/ Material/Layouts for projects. Field experience in construction, commissioning, or maintenance is preferred

Good spoken/written English PC literate. Conversant with relevant International standards. Preferred knowledge of Shell Group (DEP’s) and PDO (ERD’s).

• To provide specialist discipline engineering expertise to all project design phases


• To assume focal point responsibility for the integrity and fitness for purpose of all specified discipline deliverables


• To support design/drawing office personnel with Specialist Engineering input


• To ensure design packages meet the required safety, environmental and ergonomic standards


• To ensure design packages take account of technical progress within the industry


• On request, monitor construction, testing, and commissioning work executed by the construction contractors for compliance with the project specification


• Manage and control all interfaces with other discipline and design product suppliers


• Ensure designs are executed in line with International/Client specifications, standards and procedures as applicable.


• To actively train and encourage the development of Omani staff to fulfill draftsman, designer, senior designer and engineering roles


• To provide feed back to the Company on improvement to the Company’s design standards

Overview

Senior Piping Engineer to join its Projects team focusing on delivering across FEED and Detail design scopes of work. Position is based in Oman for a long-term assignment.

• Supervise a team of piping engineers and designers to translate the limited information from the Concept Selection Report and/or Basis for Design to Basis for Design and/or Front End Design & project specifications as well as detailed design. Supervise a team of piping engineers to carry out the Piping Engineering FEED and DD activities (Define and Execute stage) for an assigned area of a specific project in order to generate the relevant Piping Engineering FEED and DD deliverables on time according to DCAF requirements.
• Prepare Piping Engineering Cost, Time and Resource (CTR) Catalogue for projects.
• Supervise a team of piping engineers and Designers assigned to a project area (supervised by Project piping Lead).
• Contribute to Basis for Design, Basis of Design, and Project Specifications/Philosophies.
• Develop Equipment Layout/Plot Plan based on PFS/UFS, Technical safety requirements.
• Develop Piping Layout based on PEFS/UEFS.
• Carry out Stress Analysis for critical lines for both piping and pipeline (metallic and non-metallic).
• Select / Develop piping classes based on MSR.
• Develop / Approve specification for piping materials and specialty items.
• Follow Quality Management System (QMS) requirements in line with ISO and API Q2 2nd edition requirements.
• Initiate, check, and/or approve Piping Engineering Deliverables.
• Provide input / Review other discipline deliverables as appropriate.
• Conduct Layout Review / Model Reviews and ensure timely close-out of all actions.
• Support procurement and construction activities.
• Participate in HAZID, Design Review, HAZOP, IPF and various HSE related workshops.

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years in FEED and DD / ENGINEERING and Minimum 10 years in oil & gas experience.
• Specialist in stress analysis for piping and pipeline (both metallic & non-metallic).
• Good communicator and good inter-personal/leadership skills.
• Experience in managing small teams and third party contractor/licensor.
• Fluent in English; Written and Spoken.

Piping Design Engineer – Mining, Minerals & Metals
Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with generally accepted engineering and design practices, regulatory requirements, and client specifications.
• Support the standardization of equipment specifications, engineering drawings, and document templates across projects.
• Contribute to the application and dissemination of technical knowledge, legal standards, and customer requirements in a compliant and practical manner.
• Utilize local and global engineering standards to promote technical excellence and consistency.
• Participate in quality assurance processes including design checks, peer reviews, and the integration of feedback and findings.

Qualifications & Experience

• Fully proficient in engineering principles and practices within the discipline, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to shifting priorities and apply sound judgment and experience to achieve project goals.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in the Mining, Minerals, and Metals sector.
• Proven expertise in the design of piping systems for slurries and abrasive fluid services, particularly in ore slurry and tailings environments.
