The Cloud Engineer reports to the Director, Cloud Infrastructure and is responsible for systems support and configuration of operating systems, virtualization, storage, backup, replication, de-duplication, virtual desktop services such as VMware View, as well as related Identity Management technologies such as Active Directory, and other associated systems technologies. The Cloud Engineer provides expert level support in both incidents to restore service as soon as possible and problem management in preventing the reoccurrence of incidents. The Cloud Engineer provides guidance and training to other technical resources and plays a role in capacity and availability management ensure resources are appropriately monitored and managed to insure maximum availability for service levels. The Cloud Engineer also provides a key role in working directly with customers during design, implementation and ongoing support for the services provided.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implementation, support, configuration and release management of physical and virtual servers, data center hardware, operating systems, hypervisors, storage systems, and associated systems management technologies insuring data and systems are secure and available.
  • Provide expert level technical and operational support for day-to-day operations of a multi-tenant cloud infrastructure leveraging a multitude of delivery solutions including but not limited to Active Directory, VMware, SAN and NAS storage.
  • Procure and analyze syslogs, error and support logs. Engaging vendor support as required.
  • Provide expert, tier III level support for incidents to ensure operations systems are returned to service as soon as possible.
  • Prevent the re-occurrence of incidents by supporting the problem management and knowledge management processes while working directly with customers, vendors and other personnel as appropriate.
  • Follow security procedures, standards, and protocols related to stated technologies.
  • Maintain standard monitoring thresholds for performance, capacity and availability management ensuring the highest level of service performance and availability.
  • Adhere to standards for availability and business continuity and test related systems against the standard on a defined basis.
  • Maintain documentation standards and ensure consistency as related to all infrastructure configurations.
  • Support change and release management by having defined release plans, developing and implement changes requests, while having defined back out plans, and after-action reviews of failed changes.
  • Train, mentor, and develop other engineers and support personnel where needed.
  • Work directly with customers, utilizing excellent customer service skills, during all phases of the customer relationship.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Experience:

  • Qualified candidates will have five years or more of progressive experience in VMWare or Hyper-V virtual machine management supporting and configuring a combination of Microsoft or Linux Guest Operating Systems. Specific skill sets include but not limited to the demonstrated expertise in the advanced implementation, administration and management of:
    • vSphere, VMWare vCenter Server, Distributed Resource Scheduling, vSphere Standard Switching, vSphere Virtual Distributed Switching, Host/Guest Networking, vSphere HA, ESXi Cluster administration, Datastore and RDM administration.
  • Advanced practices and expertise of FC SAN, iSCSI and NAS storage required for this position.
  • Four of more years advanced experience in a combination of cloud delivery solutions including but not limited to VMWare vSphere, Hyper-V, HP One View, HP Virtual Connect Manager and Cisco UCS Manager.
  • Three or more years advanced experience installing, provisioning and supporting HP Blade Servers and Cisco UCS Blades.
  • Three or more years of progressive experience in large enterprise health care systems including Meditech, Cerner, McKesson Health Information Systems, Medical Imaging, PACS, and/or Health Information Exchange is preferred for this position.
  • Proficiency with storage systems, such as 3PAR and/or Nimble, strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in cloud best practices and data center virtualization in multi-tenant environments.
  • Background and experience with server hardening and security event prevention technologies such as Anti-Virus, SYSLOG server monitoring, etc preferred.
  • Experienced with hyper-converged infrastructure is a plus
  • Experience with VMWare VSAN is a plus

Education:

  • Planning and managing projects within budgets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The Redhat Senior Specialist focuses on exploring, implementing, and maintaining Infrastructure and systems solutions within the organization and customers’ promises. Identifies appropriate Infrastructure and systems solutions that support ODP's business processes, estimating costs and timelines, and the subsequent oversight of projects that implement or enhance those solutions.

The Senior Specialist Infrastructure (Red Hat) is a technical leadership role responsible for evaluation, recommendation, design, implementation, and ongoing support of the computer infrastructure services, and to ensure high availability, redundancy, recoverability, and capacity. The Senior Specialist Infrastructure (Red Hat) is expected to maintain, and develop in depth knowledge in multiple technical areas but not limited to Operating systems (RHEL), Clustering Technologies, Virtualization (Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization), Automation – Foreman, Puppet and Ansible, Private and public clouds (Open Shift and Open Stack), Storage (NAS, SAN, NFS, CIFS, GPFS), Red Hat Satellite 5.x and 6.x, Cisco UCS, etc.…

The Senior Infrastructure specialist will assist with the implementation, monitoring, and support of the on-premises and cloud infrastructure solutions. As a primary technical resource for Infrastructure Solutions, the engineer will be responsible for the setup and repair of ODP and customers’ infrastructure, including the monitoring and diagnosis of Infrastructure performance, and resolution of Infrastructure-based incidents and requests reported by the operation team, especially complex incidents requiring research and diagnostics.

This role will report to the Professional Service Lead and is an individual contributor

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform, ensuring all standards are maintained and cooperating on infrastructure optimization and automation.
  • Installation, configuration, and administration of Red Hat environments, including cluster configuration, management, and troubleshooting.
  • Performance tuning and storage optimization on Red Hat OS, with upgrades and satellite server configuration.
  • Configure and manage enterprise data protection products like NBU, TSM, and Veeam.
  • Participate in resource estimation and scheduling to meet customer needs. •
  • Use software tools to capture and analyze data for performance improvement recommendations.
  • Devise and oversee test plans to isolate performance limitations and deploy software applications for testing.
  • Support RHEL-based multi-node clusters and provide daily support for on-premise and off-premise cloud technologies.
  • Assist with the administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Cisco UCS, RHEV/KVM, and Docker virtualization infrastructure.
  • Support private and public cloud environments such as OpenStack and OpenShift, ensuring high availability and automation.
  • Monitor supported environments for alerts and document procedures for their use and management
  • Provide day-to-day L2 and L3 operational support, including responding to incidents, troubleshooting, and executing corrective action.
  • Ensure effective security, operation, and peak performance of UNIX/Linux servers and virtualization management environments.
  • Assist with hardware maintenance and lifecycle planning
  • Design, install, configure, and manage Red Hat OpenStack clusters in enterprise environments
  • Automate OpenStack lifecycle operations using Ansible, Heat, or Director (TripleO)
  • Monitor and maintain cloud services such as Nova, Neutron, Glance, Cinder, Keystone, Swift, and Horizon
  • Develop custom images, flavors, and templates for VM provisioning
  • Implement role-based access control (RBAC), quotas, and service policies
  • Troubleshoot and resolve OpenStack service, network, and compute node issues
  • Manage integration with storage (Ceph, NFS) and identity providers (LDAP, Keystone Federation)
  • Collaborate with DevOps, Security, and Application teams to support cloud-native workloads
  • Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and disaster recovery plans
  • Support upgrades and patching of OpenStack components

ROLE SPECIFICATIONS

Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (CS), Information Systems Management (ISM), Information Technology (IT)

Certification

  • MCSE and VMware certifications are desirable

Experience

  • Experience of 7+ years in IT Infrastructure Service Operations of Redhat OS, Virtualization and micro services

Skills

  • 3–7 years of experience with Linux systems administration (preferably RHEL/CentOS)
  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenStack Platform (10+ preferred)
  • Proficiency with OpenStack services (Nova, Neutron, Keystone, Glance, Heat, etc.)
  • Strong scripting and automation experience (Bash, Python, Ansible)
  • Experience with OpenStack deployment tools (Director/TripleO, Packstack, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of virtualization (KVM/libvirt) and networking (VXLAN, VLAN, SDN)
  • Familiarity with Ceph or similar distributed storage platforms
  • Working knowledge of Git, CI/CD pipelines, and API integration
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
