Fire Safety Engineer

Role Summary

We're looking for a Fire Safety Engineer to design, review, and supervise fire alarm and firefighting systems, ensure authority approvals, and lead testing & commissioning across our projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and review fire alarm & firefighting systems in line with NFPA/BS/EN standards; prepare Cause & Effect Matrices.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler networks and specify fire pumps.
  • Produce shop drawings, technical submittals, and as-built documentation; coordinate authority approvals to final sign-off.
  • Supervise site installation, quality control, and safety practices.
  • Plan and execute Testing & Commissioning (T&C) for alarm systems, sprinklers, hydrants, valves, and pump sets.
  • Develop emergency response and evacuation plans; deliver training to client teams.
  • Prepare periodic technical and progress reports; support bids (BOQ/specifications) and supplier evaluations.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Fire Safety Engineering (or related field).
  • 3–5+ years' experience with fire alarm, sprinklers, and fire pumps in Oman/GCC.
  • Solid knowledge of NFPA (e.g., 13/20/72) and relevant BS/EN codes and local authority requirements.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (Revit is a plus) and hydraulic calculation tools.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills in English (Arabic is a plus).
  • Valid Oman driving license is an advantage.

Purpose of the role: To provide expert leadership in ensuring that Process Safety Risks are effectively managed across OQ RPI facilities (Refineries and Petrochemicals). This involves developing and maintaining a solid Process Safety Governance framework, including procedures, regulations, and best practices, through:

  1. Developing, maintaining, and improving the framework, procedures, standards, and guidelines related to Process Safety, aligning OQ RPI practices with industry standards.
  2. Carrying out regular maturity assessments and monitoring compliance.
  3. Managing risks through framework development and risk registers.
  4. Developing process safety performance indicators and ensuring proper reporting.

The position will operate in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, supported by an IT platform, HSE standards, legal requirements, and international best practices, aligned with national objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the implementation of Process Safety policies, systems, and procedures for RPI & Plastic assets, considering lessons learned, best practices, and standards to ensure effective and efficient work.

  • Execute programs to improve Process Safety culture and monitor the improvement of Process Safety culture and provide updates, guidance and clarifications on existing laws and regulations regarding Process Safety related issues and advice on establishing the best practice standards.
  • Lead Process Safety incidents' investigations and follow-up for RPI assets.

  • The lead engineer is responsible for liaising with stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and suppliers, to ensure that project objectives are met and that expectations are managed effectively.
