Legal Advisor

To support our Legal Team in Oman, acting as a main point of contact for initial inquiries and supporting Ministry requirements

Responsibility:

  • professional advice and guidance to colleagues at all levels, building a reputation as a reliable source of commercial and legal support
  • risk across all areas of the business in the ME and make informed decisions with our permitted risk parameters
  • draft and advise the Recruitment team on employment contracts (COL’s) aligning the wording to the deal set up and contract documentation
  • and assess standard termination, resignation, and any related contractor queries to advise on the best course of action in line with legal and the business standards
  • initial assessment on more complex contractor issues to liaise with the legal manager/ head of legal to agree on the most appropriate course of action
  • onboarding training with all new starters to discuss the relevant aspects of the legal function and how and when they should engage with the team – including a clear run through of the processes
  • and draft any work orders put in place during the employment and/or client contract’s lifecycle – i.e where a revision is required to the already set template, or if a template was not in place at the time of contract negotiation
  • a quarterly meeting with AST managers to align legal and AST processes and best practices
  • annual regional training on best practice, as agreed in advance with the Legal Manager/ Head of Legal in the annual training calendar
  • the POC for worker relations, manage all personal injury cases and reporting, including contractor fatalities, working closely with the global insurance team and the Legal Manager/ Head of legal
  • as the POC for risk matters in the ME, working closely with the global risk team, reporting on worker injuries and any other related matters
  • collaboratively with the global Risk Manager to provide HSE oversight, reporting internally to the ME risk team.
  • all legislative and regulatory updates regarding local labour laws to ensure the business is always up to date and to present to the HOL on a regular basis.
  • the Senior CLO with the negotiation of client contract terms and conditions, where necessary, advising on contract interpretation and commercial risk to internal clients
  • ad hoc requests required to support the team as required by the Legal Manager/ Head of legal.

Skill & Competence Requirements:

  • attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • effectively with all stakeholders, managing communication with both junior and senior members of staff
  • knowledge of local labour laws in the Middle East region
  • practice relating to sensitive information
  • a team player and collaborating effectively with others
  • drafting skills with excellent command of the English language
  • to flexible to facilitate times of high workload

Qualifications:

  • Degree minimum, or other relevant legal qualification
  • years’ relevant experience in the legal field
  • in Commercial Law and labor disputes is a must
  • in Employment Law also an advantage
